The Nlele Institute is a Pan-African, autonomous and non-profit visual art organization. We are a resource centre, a laboratory, a learning space, an experimental workstation and a grooming ground for photographers.

Our objective is to take photography in Nigeria to a higher level of professionalism through articulated visual learning processes.

Our aim is to find and develop new talents predominantly in the grassroots and areas where the access to the learning photography is absent. We are demonstrating leadership by providing public access to photography and art education as well as addressing the needs of underserved communities.

To be the pre-eminent art photography education and development organization ever in Africa.

Our mission is commitment to the discovery, development and exposure of raw photography talents in Nigeria and other parts of Africa; reposition them to harness their talents to become world-class practitioners through exposure to wide range of visual learning processes and provide them the opportunities for visibility in both local and international photography exhibitions, festivals and biennials.

Other areas of interest:

Nlele Collections & Archives

We are creating awareness on the need to archive photographic works well, both digitally and as well as well stored negatives. Through this, we want to develop better ways of handling and caring for our important national and private photography.

The Nlele Institute will involve the local or community photographers in the archiving process.

The Nlele Trust Funds

The Nlele Institute will support photographers by providing grants in form of fellowships for the development and production of contemporary photography
